WINTER GUARD

The James River High School Winter Guard (AKA indoor guard) is an award-winning guard that performs and competes during the winter months. Winter Guard interprets music through dance, flag, rifle, and/or sabre in a time constraint of approximately three minutes and a space constraint of a tarp that covers a gymnasium floor. Performers also use props, costumes, and color to help portray the concept of their show to the audience and judges. Each school year, auditions are held to select Winter Guard team members. The Winter Guard learns and performs a different themed show each competition season.
